What I did with my weekend

Friday I published the pattern for the Ave Maria pattern (see the post below). I’m excited that it’s done. It’s such a relief to know that it’s done. It ended up being 6 pages long and has color pictures and charts. I hope people enjoy it.

I also finished the blue dishtowel I was working on. In this picture you can see it hanging next to the first one I made. As you can see, the blue one looks a little bit wavy on the edges. However, this does go away after it’s washed and used.

Friday afternoon we headed out for a party at Dani’s house. It was a lot of fun. I’m not going into a lot of details since this is my professional blog. But we ate a lot of food and blew up a lot of fireworks.

Saturday I spent recovering from the party and fighting off a cold that had been bothering me since Thursday afternoon. I didn’t crochet at all because I just couldn’t deal with it.

Sunday I slept the end of the cold away. I also finally felt like crocheting so I finished my purple socks and started on the next pair. ๐Ÿ™‚ Here’s a pic of that:

Today I’m doing a lot of paperwork. I’ve already sent off the calendar for the shop to the paper, I’ve typed up my lesson plan for tomorrow’s lesson, and I’m about to do my samples for that. Then I’m going to do my updates for the website so when John gets home he can put them on the server. I also need to finish up the paperwork for the submission and get it ready to go out the door tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Time to get back to work!

Another excuse to make socks

I’m joining in on the Summer KAL/CAL (knit-along, crochet-along). The theme this summer is socks and bags. Like I need an excuse to crochet socks. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of socks, I’m almost done with the pair I started at Stitch n Pitch. Unfortunately, I forgot that talking and following 3 conversations is not conducive to doing a heel flap. Yeah, I had to rip out the heel I was working on at the crochet meeting. Oh well. I’ll work on it again here in a bit and get it done.

The first pattern I’m going to do for the Summer KAL/CAL is the pattern I bought from Laurie Wheeler for socks. I’m using the handpainted sock yarn I got for free in my goody bag at Stitch n Pitch.

Then I’ll very likely buy some yarn later this month. I was fondling inspecting some Bernat Comfort Sock at the shop the other day. The solid color was really deep and it was very soft.

In other crochet news, I spent most of the last two days doing paperwork. I finished formatting the pattern for the tree skirt. I have one more picture to take and that’s of it around a tree (which I just borrowed from Margarita). That will likely be done today.

I also got my teaching stuff organized. Lesson plans are now written out and in place (for a few lessons, I have more to do, but I’m ahead of the curve). I also have my forms and such in place.

Well, today is a day off for me (other than taking the photos). We’ve got a party to go to tonight and then the rest of the weekend to relax. So, if you don’t hear from me, that’s why. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend everyone!

Pressie for me and final look at the baby doll

First off, lookie lookie what the UPS man brought me today:

This was made possible by a very gracious gift from John’s Aunt Nelcy. She and I had been talking about how I wanted to get a commercial steamer but it was out of my range at the moment. She ended up leaving us some money so I could get the steamer after she visited the other weekend.

Here’s a pic of it set up (and yes, that’s a skirt on it so I could test out the steamer):

It works like a dream. It has foot pedals and a retractable cord and tools on board. It’s so awesome. So, thank you again for the great gift, Aunt Nelcy! ๐Ÿ™‚

In other news, does everyone remember the Seminole doll tunic I was commissioned to do? Well, if not you can read about it here. Well, Mare sent me a picture of the doll all done with the hair and the coloring and the addition of her little touches.

She does excellent work with these dolls. As you saw in the first post with the tunic, she starts with a vinyl baby doll and does hand coloring and hand rooting of the hair (except in this case…it was horsehair and just would not root so it was applied strand by strand with adhesive). She is very talented and I’ve been lucky enough to see her creations over the years and I’m the proud Momma of one of her Kidz. If you’re interested in her work, here is her site. If you are easily offended or upset by horror dolls and scenes, do not click on her site. I only state that so that no one complains about me sending them to a site they might be offended by. She does a lot of horror and fantasy work with the dolls and has had at least one of her Kidz commissioned for an album cover.

As far as my pattern work today goes, I’ve got most of the tree skirt one done. I was trying to find a way to do my charts with the programs I currently have. That didn’t work. Thankfully, John was able to get the scanner running so now I’ll sketch them very clearly and have him scan them for me. Then I’ll be able to insert them as jpg’s into my patterns.

Of course, it’s raining again so no pictures of the wrap. I’m very close to just setting up Sally and taking the picture inside somehow. ๐Ÿ™

Okay, off to work on socks for the evening. Have a great night!

Finished socks

I thought I posted this yesterday, but I guess I didn’t. I was busy cleaning all day so my computer time was limited.

Anyway, I finished Mare’s socks….see:

I added a few things to the closet, but didn’t get a picture ’cause really, it’s not all that exciting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, not a lot of other work done. I’ve been cleaning and that takes it out of me so I only did about 3 more rows on the baby dress sample. I’m hoping to get the last of my cleaning done by lunch time so I can crochet a bit more before people come over tonight. Which means I need to get off the computer! Later!

Took the weekend off

Literally. I did very little crocheting all weekend. It was nice, although it did worry me a bit last night.

Actual conversation in our home:

Me: I think something’s wrong with me.
John: (eyebrow raised and choosing his words carefully) Why?
Me: I don’t feel like crocheting.
John: Burned out?
Me: No, not really. I want to crochet, but I just can’t seem to stay focused on it. Maybe because I don’t have any projects for me that are quick.
John: You gonna be okay?
Me: Yeah, I’m just fighting another round of startitis. Maybe it’s good that I took the weekend off.

I did accomplish something, though. I got one of Mare’s socks done. See?

I still have a second one to do, but I’ll start it tonight.

Today I’m back to work on China Doll. I just did the last increase round on the bottom of the tunic, so I only have 8 more rounds to do before the trim. Then it’s on to the sleeves and collar and trims. I picked up the 1/2″ bone rings for the closures on Saturday. They’re tiny. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think a lot of my issue over the weekend was ’cause I have a lot of ideas going around in my head. And I’m wondering about the status of my submitted pieces. And I know I need to get 2 more designs done this month for the CLF book. So when my brain is going in 200 different directions it’s hard to focus on any one thing.

The good news over the weekend, though, is that Midnight is finally finished with his meds. Yesterday we started adding yogurt to his food to help put good bacteria back into his stomach. My thinking is with as heavy duty of antibiotics as he was on, not only should it have knocked out the bacteria in his urine, it very likely knocked out the good bacteria, too. Now we wait a week or so and then take him back to the vet to see if the antibiotics worked. PLEASE let them have worked. I don’t want to go through another round of meds and such.

Anyway, off to work. Hope everyone has a good week!

Something done, somethings started

Today I finished my jazzy hot socks. I really do love this pattern ’cause it’s so easy and now I have it memorized and don’t need the instructions anymore. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here they are:

Now I’ve got to figure out what to work on. I may work some more on this. This is a project that started itself. Honest. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, that would be the Vintage Vertical Stripe (VVS) afghan. Yes, it’s only going to be in black and white. It is going pretty quickly (20 minutes to do one row of 250 stitches).

Tomorrow during “work crochet” time I’ll be working on this:

It’s China Doll from the cover of the latest Interweave Crochet. The yarn is Dale of Norway Stork. It’s for a sample for A Yarn Outlet. Can I just say that I’m LOVING doing crochet sample work? ‘Cause I am. ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, time to figure out what to work on for the rest of the day. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Today’s project and a picture I can show you

So I’m working on the nifty project to submit to the CLF book. I need to check with Laurie to see if I can show what I’m working on or not. I know with typical publishing items I can’t show them until they’re published. But, we’re doing a different plan with the CLF book. Designers are retaining rights to anything they submit and one of my designs that has been accepted is one that I already have for sale. So I need to check. If I can, I’ll show pics later. It’s really going to be neat. I’ll give a hint, I’m using the rayon thread I got back in November at the Orlando Needlework Show. ๐Ÿ™‚

Last night I worked on Mare’s socks. Here’s where I am so far:

The picture just doesn’t do the colors justice. They’re very bright. I like them and so does Mare, so that’s good. ๐Ÿ™‚

So I’m back to working on the rayon project. I’m hoping to get quite a bit done today. Thankfully the pattern is written up through to the edging. So I need to get it done and then I can figure out something for the edging.

New look and still plugging along

I had to create a banner for an ad on Ravelry for a contest I’m sponsoring so I decided to use it for the blog, too. Once I get the website made, it’ll go on that. ๐Ÿ™‚

As you can see from the previous post, I got the other felted pattern up. I’ve also started making the shirt for one of Mare’s dolls (my friend Mare is a doll artist, and has requested a “Seminole style” shirt for a custom request). I also got all the math done for the other item for the CLF book. Tomorrow I will get to work on crocheting that piece.

So I’m feeling pretty accomplished. I’m about to work on Mare’s socks because while it’s technically “work” crochet, I like making socks. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also want to see how the colors work out. I really like working with TOFUtsies.

Another yarn I’m in love with now? Classic Elite Yarns Classic One Fifty wool. It’s 100% Merino wool and is BEAUTIFUL. The stuff crochets up so nicely. I did a small swatch with a J hook and half double crochets. It had some great drape and wasn’t itchy at all. I even wore it for a bit of the day tucked into my bra (to test it against the skin). Most wool is a bit scratchy and even high wool content socks bother me a bit. I was amazed that this wool didn’t. In fact, I forgot I had it on. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can forsee myself using this yarn to make a sweater. It’s beautiful. Now I just need to live somewhere other than Florida so I can wear it longer than a couple of weeks. Seriously, I’m about to put my winter clothes away as we’ve been in the mid 80s all week. Yuck. What’s a crocheter to do? Make socks!

Speaking of socks, I’ve created a monster. Dani has now completed her 2nd pair of socks. Now, I started my latest pair out of the same yarn a few days before I gave her 2 skeins of it. I’m just now into my second sock of the pair and she’s done. I’m proud of her, but I think Joe’s gonna be mad when he gets home this summer. If not mad, he may not like me much. Dani, quick, make him a pair so he’ll see why they’re so cool!

I think this year’s gifts are going to be socks. Sorry, Mom, you lose out on the surprise, but there you go. ๐Ÿ™‚ A Yarn Outlet had a lot of neat colors in some different brands I want to try. While I like bright funky colored socks, not everyone else will, so I need to get some tweedy colors for them.

Okay, time to work on socks.

I may get a day off this week….

Remember my to-do list from last night? If not, here it is to remind you and it’s updated. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. Block the motifs for Design #105 and start joining (and write the rest of that part of the pattern) since it’s been accepted for publication and I need to get it done.

The motifs are blocked, I need to do some research on the various ways I can do it.

2. Begin work on Design #125 so I can get it sent off.

Swatch made that tomorrow I will pull apart to get a yardage estimate. Pattern is written through to edging.

3. Get the 2 patterns I wrote last week photographed, edited, formatted, uploaded, updated in Ravelry, and updated on here.

Felted Coasters and Box pattern is done and up (see previous post). Second one (Felted Dishes) should be up tomorrow.

4. Swatch for a piece commissioned by another artist for use in her work.

I haven’t started this one yet, but I did find my main color fiber and will start swatching later this week.

5. Make a pair of socks for Mare now that I have her yarn.

I’m about to start on these now. They should only take me a few days.

It’s been a pretty productive day. I’m hoping to be as productive the next few days and I may be able to swing taking Friday off (Dani, Margarita, you two game for our typical Friday get together?). ๐Ÿ™‚ Okay, time to go figure something out for dinner and feed the dog.

Things to do this week

Busy week ahead….I’m not even going to put these into specific days as I never know what exactly will happen each day. However, these are the things I need to do this week:

1. Block the motifs for Design #105 and start joining (and write the rest of that part of the pattern) since it’s been accepted for publication and I need to get it done.

2. Begin work on Design #125 so I can get it sent off.

3. Get the 2 patterns I wrote last week photographed, edited, formatted, uploaded, updated in Ravelry, and updated on here.

4. Swatch for a piece commissioned by another artist for use in her work.

5. Make a pair of socks for Mare now that I have her yarn.

Ahh, it’s going to be a busy work week for me! I think the whole of my work is going to start getting a lot busier. So, time to get cracking on this stuff. After this next week I need to start working on the designs I submitted so that if they are accepted in the yarns and colors I swatched in I’ll have them done. That’d be nice. Instead of my usual M.O. of rushing at the last minute. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, time to finish a sock and finish up my weekend.
