Swag and goody update

So I didn’t get a lot of things while at Chain Link. Coming in to Buffalo, my checked luggage was at 47.3 pounds. So I didn’t have a lot of room to play with.

When I registered I bought the commemorative hook. It’s really pretty and I picked that up on Wednesday:

Here’s a closeup of the carved info:

I also got a Lion Brand goody bag. It was a huge bag but didn’t have a lot in it. Two skeins of yarn, some plastic circular knitting hooks, the Just Wraps book, and a handout that was all knit hats. Here’s what I kept:

I’m likely going to give my niece the yarn since I didn’t get a chance to pick her up anything. ๐Ÿ™‚

During Professional Development Day I got an Annie’s Attic book along with all my handouts. Everyone got different ones. I got Comfort Crochet:

I also won a door prize! A Tahki Stacey Charles pattern book (that I’ve wanted for a while) and 9 skeins of Tahki Cotton Classic. There’s a Doris Chan pattern in there that I wanted to make and I have just enough yarn for it! How awesome is that?

On Thursday after the Getting Loopy show, we ran over to the market preview where Mary Beth Temple was signing books at the Leisure Arts booth. Leisure Arts was giving away copies of the book! I was stoked about this since I had planned on buying it anyway!

It feels weird to me to get an autograph from someone I consider a friend. But I did it anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Friday during lunch I broke down and went to buy the Tulip Etimo hooks. I held one in my hand during the Thursday preview and had to have them. Here’s the case closed (I love how fancy it looks):

And open:

Yes, it came with all the hooks from D to J (including the 2 sizes of G), a pair of really sharp scissors, a hard ruler, and 2 needles. There’s room for 2 more hooks if I move the scissors to the zippered section.

Saturday after the Meet and Greet we stood in line for Drew’s book signing. Again, Leisure Arts was giving away books. They were totally random but it worked out great! Margarita got a hat book and I got the pet book.

It has so many cute projects in it! Midnight currently sleeps on an old memory foam topper that has been cut into two beds. There’s a cover in this book that I think I might make (better than the blankets tossed on it). I need to do it with a zipper so I can take it off to wash it. Anyway, also got an autograph:

On Saturday I finally broke down and bought a Nantucket Bag. I’ve been lusting after one of these for months now. As soon as I heard they would be at Chain Link, I knew this was something I was coming home with. I just wanted to see it in person and make sure I liked it. Well, I do. I love it!!! They had it in purple (guess what color I got?), too! This thing is so neat and customizable. I spent one day with it as a backpack and then traveled with it as a tote bag. I plan on pulling out some of the stitches to customize my pockets. Plus, I can hang it flat on my studio wall to hold my tools and then when I’m going somewhere I can just grab it and zip it up and go! Here’s some pics of it:

As a tote bag:

Two shots of it open:

And the view of the back showing the shoulder straps:

I also picked up a pair of crochet earrings on Saturday in our last run through the market before heading down to the dinner. Aren’t they cute?

The last thing I got was at the dinner on Saturday night. There were double ended hooks and knitting needles on the chairs. I grabbed a seat with a hook. It’s a G double ended hook which I can use as a Tunisian hook by simply putting a stopper on the other end.

So that’s all the swag I came back with. And for the record, my luggage was right at 50 lbs on the way back. ๐Ÿ™‚ And that’s with putting most of the yarn swag into my carry on bag. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oops, lost a week

I always look back at my blog to see when the last time I posted was so I don’t get redundant. And I looked this time and thought, “My little brother didn’t come over this Friday, I went to Margarita’s….” and then I realized I lost a week. Sorry.

So, what happened last week? Well, if you were following me on Twitter (or checking the side bar here where I have my Tweets posting), then you know that Monday I went to Mare’s house to work (didn’t get as much done as I should have…too much gabbing). Tuesday I worked really late to finish a design concept, Wednesday I wasn’t in the mood to crochet until it was time to head out for a meeting, Thursday I worked and then went to the group south of me, and Friday I went to Margarita’s (where I got a lot of work done). This weekend was spent sitting in the garage opening (where I am now…LOVE our wireless connection) while John did major surgery on his car. The good news is that the car is finally off the jack stands (why I sit out here in case it falls) and fluids are being replaced.

Today I finally got around to typing up design proposals and sending them out to a new source. Nope, not going into details, but because it was an entity I haven’t worked with yet, I was worried about how to present myself. Thus why it took forever to write these blasted things. A few minutes ago I sent those out. Fingers crossed please, as I consider it a growing step in my career. ๐Ÿ™‚

This morning I also got an article fired off for the 3rd CLF book (yep, we’re planning on cranking them out!) so hopefully it is accepted as well.

I also don’t know if I mentioned but I’m waiting to hear if my application to be moved from Associate Professional to Professional status has been accepted. It was a weird but happy feeling when I got the notice from Robyn Chachula that I’d been an AP for 2 years now. Time to grow up! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hopefully it’ll be accepted. Of course, it means getting new business cards printed, but for the time being I’ll just cross out the “associate” part on my current ones. Next step, TNNA membership.

I’m now waiting for yarn to come for 2 projects. One for the yarn company (which has a quick turnaround, so I need to get started as soon as it comes in) and another for a publication piece for next year. I’m excited about the latter as it’ll be a yarn I haven’t worked with yet. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m also busy crocheting garments to wear at Chainlink in August. So far I have two tops on the hook. A blue sparkly top and a yummy lavender top. I have at least one more that I want to get done. I also need to put the finishing touches on a piece that will be going into the fashion show. I can’t show pictures yet because that one is slated to be released this summer. Yay!

I owe pictures, especially on the item that arrived today. I won the Easter Egg hook from Jimbo’s handcarved hooks. It’s awesome. I’ll get a picture later and post it.

Well, it looks like I might be able to go inside in a bit as John doesn’t seem to be under the car anymore. I might stay out here, though. It’s overcast and breezy and actually nice. We had 3 minutes of rain while we were out at lunch and then it stopped. Boo. We need more.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Catching up

Wednesday night was our going away party for Amber. Other than Dani and I, Amber is close to being an original member of our little crochet group. So we got together at Margarita’s house and had a little party for her. Here are a few pics:

So it was a bittersweet party. I’m so proud of Amber, she’s taking a promotion that has her moving from here in Florida to New York. She will be greatly missed. I wish her the best of luck and hope to see her in August when we’re up in Buffalo (she’s going to try to sneak up there for the weekend).

On Thursday I got a present from John in the mail.

Hmmm, what could this be?

Woo hoo! It’s a handcarved hook by Award winning hook maker Jimbo. It’s beautiful! It’s a J hook made in redheart wood. I can’t wait to use it.

John said it’s for winning my Flamie! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love it.

Thursday night I went down to visit the South Shore Knitters and Crocheters. They were a great group of ladies and I felt very welcome. I will likely start attending every week. I’m not going to quit going to my Tampa group, I just wanted to find a group a bit closer to home and meet some new people.

Today I worked on a new design idea (that woke me up the other night and I had to sketch in the bathroom so I wouldn’t wake John up) and got the math right and am almost finished with my sample. I also got the yarn for the next yarn company project today and will start swatching for that over the weekend. Is it bad that I want to make it work with the J hook so I can use my new hook?

I also need to do my taxes this weekend. Blah, more math. Oh well. It needs to get done.

On the non-crochet front, John has received a contingent offer letter from the company he interviewed with (contingent on them getting the contract they’re going for…something everyone is pretty secure in). So now we have to wait and see if the contract goes through. We won’t know for a few more weeks.

Okay, off to make dinner. Have a good weekend everyone!

Oh, and listen Monday night to Getting Loopy, I’ll finally be officially accepting my Flamie on the air! I’ll post a link on Monday for the show!
