Blur of a weekend

Friday night I went to bed with the migraine back at full force. Mostly due to our neighbors who were putting in some sort of fort or something huge in their backyard and had to dig posts. Okay, really they were pulling up their old patio (this sounded a lot like someone was tearing down the wall to my studio….yes, I went and checked to see what they were doing) and putting in a new one. Well, houses here are so freaking close together (not like where I grew up) that while they dug post holes next door we could FEEL it through our living room floor. The living room floor is not next to the outer wall. In fact, that noise had to travel through the guest room and then across the living room to where I was sitting. What made this worse is that my migraine had just started to really go away Friday morning.

Saturday morning I woke with the migraine still going strong. We took the girls to their vet appointment (they did so good!) and came home. Got home and a certain well loved greyhound was not being good. He had gotten out of the kitchen and into the girls room and dumped their water and decided the contents of the litter box would look better in the living room. Ugh. NOT happy. He immediately knew he was in trouble and went straight to his bed. Later that day he was still very subdued and on his best behavior. Needless to say, with the full blown migraine and a misbehaving dog, we did not make it to the parade.

I went to bed around 12:30 and slept until 4. John left shortly after to go to work for maintenance and ended up coming right back. I did not work on Midnight’s sweater any on Saturday. I did finish the body of it on Friday night.

Yesterday John went to help a friend work on his motorcycles and then came home and worked in the garage a bit. I started playing with Tunisian crochet and did pretty well. I am developing a blister where the hook rubs so I might have to try something a bit different. But I do like how easy it is. I don’t know why I didn’t try this before now! ๐Ÿ™‚

John’s home sick today and I’m finishing up the edging on Midnight’s sweater. I need to leave in a bit and go to the bank and then go pick up some buttons for the sweater. I want to have it done before I take it with me so it’s not attached to the yarn. Hopefully photos and pattern editing can be done tonight so that the pattern can go up tomorrow. I’m really hoping people like it and want to make it. I will also offer finished objects of it for those who don’t crochet. Gotta figure a price on that one, too.

Off to get another cup of coffee and finish the edging. Happy Monday, y’all!

Plenty of time!

That, gentle readers, would be my Little Bro’s blanket. DONE. It’s currently in the dryer. And I’m not up at 3am finishing it! ๐Ÿ™‚

So what’s on the hook now? Working on the socks I started back on my birthday. I needed a quick small project I could take with me to Disney tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚ So this is what I chose. I may likely finish the first sock tonight and then have the second one to do on the trip out and while waiting in line for entry to Candlelight. I have new sock yarn, too, so I want to finish this pair with this pattern that I’m using and then I can play around with it for the next set.

To reward myself for finishing all my gifts while normal people are still awake, I had some ice cream (Dublin Mudslide from Ben and Jerry’s) and now I’m drinking a raspberry flavored beer (Woodchuck Draft Cider in Raspberry…yummo).

Oh, and I will likely start having to crochet some dog sweaters. We have our home visit next Saturday with the Greyhound Rescue group here to see if we’re a fit with the dogs for adopting a greyhound. ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re excited. We’ve gotten past the primary application stage. So that’s good.

In other non-yarn / animal news, our two girls are going on meds. ๐Ÿ™ Trinka has some kidney problems and Trinka is overweight and has elevated liver enzymes. So both go on a special diet and meds starting tomorrow. It won’t be a happy time here in this household. Oh well. It’ll keep them healthy and happy in the long run.

Quick post and then back to work

I got 6 motifs done for the wrap. They do go together quick and are pretty easy to join as you go. I didn’t work that much on it on Saturday. And now I can’t work on it for a while ’cause I have to finish SSP#1 and Little Bro’s afghan for Christmas.

Today’s work is of course SSP#1. I’m finally getting in a groove into it which is good. I’m hoping to finish the part I’m working on today. I’d like to have the crocheting parts done by Christmas so I can put it together and get it shipped before the end of the year.

Progress on what will now be dubbed SSP#2 is going well. I have this one out to a tester/contract crocheter and she is doing an AMAZING job. Much better than I could do in the same time frame. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m very pleased every time she sends me pics of her progress. I actually almost cried the other night because to have someone working on something that was just a picture in my head and actually having it come out just like it’s in my head blows me away. ๐Ÿ™‚ And she’s enjoying the work on it, so that’s good.

I’ve got another design on the hook from Friday. That will be worked on later, maybe on my bad hand days. I also have SSP#3 out with a tester but there’s no big deadline on that one right now. And then there’s another one I want to knock out after the holidays are over. This is why I’m going to have to have Dani as my project manager. To help me keep track of all of these.

Okay, back to work. I’m going to get interrupted today when the guy from GE comes to look at our now dead fridge/freezer. I’m really not happy about that. Really not happy. Especially because I had just brought home a plate of deviled eggs from Saturday’s family thing. ๐Ÿ™ And now I’ll have to throw them out tomorrow (trash doesn’t get picked up until Wednesday, no point in removing them from a sealed container until tomorrow night).

Oh, and here’s a pic from Saturday, just me and John. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m being told that I look a lot happier than I have been for years. That’s ’cause I’m ridiculously in love.

Things accomplished today

I have a new project manager. And she’s a tough taskmaster. ๐Ÿ™‚ My instructions for today were to not turn my computer on until I had made real progress on SSP#1. So I got up this morning and made the salad for tomorrow’s holiday get together with all the family, fixed my coffee and then got to work. I made a little over 2″ progress. Sure, it doesn’t sound like much, but it is. And the fact that my hands didn’t cramp up too much made me really happy. I wanted to get up to 11″ but my hands were so dry that they were starting to hurt. So I texted and asked for permission to stop at 9″ instead. She agreed and I was finally able to get online. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then I started feeling really icky (I hate being a woman sometimes) so I didn’t work on SSP#1 any more today. Instead, once John’s welder arrived at 2:30 I went to take medicine and lay down with the heating pad. I also dragged all my stitch guides and my notebook in with me. If I was going to be laying there, I might as well keep working. So, I started kinda toying with a shawl idea (that one I need to play with the yarn first), jotted down a pattern for an afghan I want to do soon for submission, and started another project for submission. That one I actually started crocheting and was working on it when John got home.

I’ve also coordinated and chatted with my contract crocheter and pattern tester. And after she sent me a picture with my sample next to her first part I’m really glad I’m going with her. First of all, she’s insane fast. Secondly, hers looks so much better than mine. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a matter of knowing where your strengths are, and that item is not one of my strengths. I can do it, but she does it better. ๐Ÿ™‚ And she doesn’t hate me yet for how involved it will be or the kinda quick deadline for at least a really good photo of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yet. We’ll see.

Now I’m going to go put away my other stuff and work on Little Bro’s blanket. I may start another project only ’cause I need something to crochet tomorrow on the way to my parents’ house and I can’t work on the blanket in the car…just too much to it and color changes and it’s going to be 82 tomorrow. So maybe I’ll start on my wrap. John’s going to go out and put together his welding cart.

Not a lot today

I had some running around to do today and the past two days I’ve felt rather tired, so not much has gotten done. ๐Ÿ™

However, I am 11 rows from finishing the cabled sweater and then I just have to seam and do edgings. Goal is to get off the computer and get that done.

Just got word today that if I want a permanent vendor booth spot at the coffee house I can have it. ๐Ÿ™‚ 30% of sales goes to them and I have to come by and help out now and then. Not a bad gig at all. Especially since I love this coffee house and it’s a win win to me: I can help support them and I can sell stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay!

I have a part time cool job lined up for the end of the year. That makes me happy. It won’t be a lot coming in, but the job is cool and it’s something steady.

I need to decide what to take with me tomorrow to my parents’ house. While most of the day will be spent laying a new laminate wood floor in the living room, I’m sure there will be time to crochet. It will keep me calm and keep me from saying stupid stuff to my mom. ๐Ÿ™‚ I may take Jose and Beatrice’s throw to work on since I don’t need a pattern for it (I wrote the pattern for it and it’s an easy repeat). I should work on my little brother’s afghan, but that’s kind of hard to work on in front of him. ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday John will be at work and so I’m going to go ahead and use it as a work day, too. I wish that it would get cooler (it’s back up in the 80s here) so I could sit outside and work. I also wish the Panera would open up down the street ’cause I’d so be there to sit and work, too. I think that’s a lot of it. It’s hard for me to focus here and work. Oh well, the coffee house is talking about opening mid day during the week. Maybe I’ll just suck it up and drive into Tampa to sit and work. They have free wi-fi, too, so that helps.

Okay, I want to knock this sleeve out of the sweater before John gets home from work. Later….

Happy Turkey Day, all!

Birthday preps

I just put the first cake in the oven. My goal today is to get all my baking/cooking done in time to be able to crochet some this afternoon. All I have left to do is bake the second cake when this one cools and I can take it out of the pan and then make my spinach and artichoke dip. I got all my cleaning done yesterday. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have one more skull to make, I want to finish my prototype for my newest simple pattern and get it to the pattern tester I lined up. I also need to work on the other one. But, I will see that pattern tester on Wednesday, too, so I can give it to her then.

Right now I’m on hold to see if I have to teach tomorrow. I’m kinda hoping not since it’s a kids class and I am not thrilled about doing that in this setup. I’ll do it, but I prefer one on one for kids. There’s just so much for them to absorb and really hard to try to keep all of them focused on what we’re doing. Yay, no classes tomorrow. While that sucks pay wise, it does help me focus on the party setup and means I can go to the wedding with no issues next week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yum, that cake smells good. And yes, I’m making two. I’m making two sheet cakes and I’m going to stack them on top of one another to have one big cake. Why? ‘Cause it’s my birthday and I can. Well, that and we have like 12 people confirmed as coming. I didn’t want to do just a flat single layer of sheet cake and a double layered round cake wouldn’t be big enough. So, we’ll be eating cake for a while.

Okay, off to drink some more coffee and crank out another skull while I’m waiting. Happy Friday, y’all!

Towels, skulls, and cleaning

I started a new pattern yesterday. It will be up on my website for sale once I get it written and figure out how to do that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve got 1 of 3 skulls made for a friend. I need to work on the other two today so I can felt them while the towels are washed.

Today not a lot of crocheting will get done, though. I need to start cleaning for the party since tomorrow will be cooking and baking.

Just wanted to pop in and let everyone know I’m still alive!

Things are starting to roll right along

I finally got my first teaching check today. Woo hoo! Especially when I was expecting it to be for 1 class of 1 student that they weren’t supposed to let me teach anyway (keep in mind I only make 75% of the total tuition for the class). So imagine my surprise when the check was for a lot more. Seems they sent the paperwork after my 2nd class started. So, that’s good. It tells me it takes only about 3 weeks to get a check after a class starts. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a one on one lesson this week which will be a bit more money coming in (need to send a reminder email to her today). Also I have the one confirmed commission and possibly a second one (still waiting to hear on that one).

This is good. This proves that I can make money from this. Now I just need to get the final project out the door so that contract and check can move a bit closer. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also need to get a few more things done. I have some other ideas so I’m going to work on them this week. I need to start writing down my plan of attack and putting it where I can find it.

I also need to get the house really cleaned in the next 2 weeks. My birthday’s coming and we’re having a party here and while the house is typically neat, there will be people here I don’t know well (some of John’s coworkers) so I want the place “company clean”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a good weekend, everyone! I’m off to go try to finish the kitchen baskets today. I’m on the last side panel of Mom’s, so I should be able to get it and the bottom done this afternoon. Then I just need to do an edging on Kelli’s basket and then fill them and see just how much I still have left to do. ๐Ÿ™‚

Things accomplished today

So far today I’ve gotten the following done:

1. Walked the dogs (wow, fall needs to hurry up…it felt like 90 at 9am)
2. Drank some coffee and ate breakfast
3. Entered the rest of my books into Ravelry (at least the ones they had, too).
4. Entered my “good stash” into Rav and took pictures. (I need to get the good stash out of the closet and organize it, too, but that may wait for another day)
5. Took care of some housekeeping chores in the online group I help moderate.

Now I need to finish the scarf I was working on yesterday and then get started on that design I need to tweak the pattern for and have it and the finished product done soon. I’m starting to get nervous now ’cause the deadline for submissions was yesterday so hopefully soon I’ll hear something, anything. ๐Ÿ™‚ Fingers crossed!

Ravelry is bad for me, though. I have tons of ideas and things I want to do ’cause I keep looking at other peoples’ stuff and adding things to my queue. I’m so tempted to go start something else and I can’t. I HAVE to finish the design first. Gah.

Okay, off to go get some lunch and start crocheting. I never thought I’d say this, but I need the network to go down so I can get stuff done. I suppose I could go work in the studio, but I don’t like leaving the animals all unattended. And I seriously need to clean the studio before I can work in there again.
