Knitting & Crocheting Blog Week: Day Six – Something to Aspire To

Day Six! 🙂

Today’s prompt:

Is there a pattern or skill that you don’t yet feel ready to tackle but which you hope to (or think you can only dream of) tackling in the future, near or distant? Is there a skill or project that makes your mind boggle at the sheer time, dedication and mastery of the craft? Maybe the skill or pattern is one that you don’t even personally want to make but can stand back and admire those that do. Maybe it is something you think you will never be bothered to actually make but can admire the result of those that have.

Oh, this is easy! I want to learn Hairpin Lace. I’ve done it once, back when I was a teenager and learning how to crochet for the first time. I tried a little bit of everything back then. But I either had trouble getting it or there just weren’t a lot of cool patterns in hairpin lace, so it didn’t stick as something I wanted to do.

I wanted to take the class at the Knit and Crochet Show in 2009, but I had other classes that won out that were offered around the same time. Last year I taught so I didn’t take any classes (and I don’t think it was offered). Same thing with this year (too busy with 12 hours of classes to even think of taking anything). BTW, class listing went live on Thursday, so you should go check it out!

I bought a book and hairpin lace tool a few months ago. It’s on my list of the things to do (as is to design something in hairpin lace). It’s just about finding time to sit down and learn it. I will do it before the end of this year. *nods*

I think there are some really cool designs out there that use hairpin lace. In fact, I have some of those patterns in my pattern “stash”. Again, though, finding time to sit down and crochet for me is difficult.

But it is something I’m going to make time for this year.

What about you? What’s a skill you want to learn? Make a plan to find time to do it this year!

Stay tuned, I’ll have a post each day through Sunday, answering the prompts given at Eskimimi Knits’ site. If you want to read the rest of the blogs that are also posting, you can do a google search on this term: 2KCBWDAY6. Everyone participating will have that term in their post and you can follow along that way. 🙂
