Totally not related to crochet

Except to say that I haven’t crocheted yet today because we had to go run errands. See, we had our home visit from the Greyhound Rescue yesterday. Today we got a phone call that they will be bringing a beautiful boy named Midnight to our home on Tuesday. 🙂 So we had to go get bowls and a raised feeder and a kiddie gate to block the girls’ room from a dog and a few other things. 🙂 I’m so glad John will be home this next week (other than tomorrow) so he can help with Midnight while I continue to work on the project. 🙂

And yes, I’ll post a pic of him when he comes home. I have the pic from the rescue group, but I’d rather have a pic of him here at the house. 🙂

2 steps forward, 1 step back

I just ripped out 2 rows of SSP#1 because suddenly it was “off”. I’m hoping I figured out what it was that suddenly did that and fixed it. If not, I will likely cry and have a nervous breakdown. :-/ But, the fact that the pattern row below that didn’t have an issue, and then suddenly there was one, tells me it’s within those 2 rows I ripped out. Not happy about that, but oh well. Hopefully it’s not further back than that as I’ve recently woven in ends and sealed them. That could be very very very bad if I have to rip past that. But, I don’t think I do.

But, to shore myself up before carrying on, I think I’m going to eat some ice cream. 🙂

Oh, and have I mentioned that moleskin is a crocheter’s best friend? Way nicer than bandages and keeps you from burning your fingers with the fiber. 🙂

A quick pause for the happy dance

I just measured the part of SSP#1 I am working on now. This is the largest part of it (and why I want to get it out of the way). I did some math (yucko) and figured out that I only have 53 more rows to go before this part is DONE.

53. Totally doable.

Granted, I then get to start over and make 72 rows (but I’m getting into the swing of this, so it’s going much faster than the beginning), and make another small section, and finish another part, but right now we’re focusing on the happy part.

53 more rows.

I took a piece of paper and made 53 little boxes. Why? Because since this pattern is so very simple and mind numbing (I’ve been watching lots of TV while doing this), it is very hard to tell you’ve made any progress. Since I have it rolled up and held together with a piece of plastic used to hold wrapping paper tubes closed, it’s a pain to unroll it and keep measuring or counting rows.

Oh and besides that, I’m wearing my new “I swatched Ravelry” shirt. Dani got it for me for my birthday and it finally came in a couple of weeks ago. Since it’s 81 degrees outside right now (major suckage), I can wear it tonight to go out. Thankfully a cold front is coming through this weekend and it will be in the 50s and 60s next week. 🙂

Okay, back to knock out a few more rows before it’s time to go.

Clicking along

Moleskin is my new best friend. Way better than using a bandage. 🙂

Anyway, clicking along well on SSP#1. Wove in ends and sealed them (working in nylon is a bit difficult with that) so that part’s done.

Gotta run and get a shower and then get back to it. We’re meeting friends in a few hours for dinner. I will not crochet while at the restaurant (especially since there will be drinking involved) but I will likely take it with me for the car ride there (about 25 minute trip, that’s 2 rows!).

Am I freaking out yet? Nope. Still have plenty of time. 🙂 I can do it. Granted, I can’t get anything else done right now. Thank goodness John’s taking next week off so if we do get a greyhound during that time, he’ll be here. 🙂

Okay, just letting everyone know that I’m still alive and working hard. 🙂

Feedback on gifts

I got a great email from my sister today. I had asked her to send me pics of my niece wearing her Seraphina Shawl that I made her since I couldn’t be there for Christmas day (we were at John’s dad’s house). So tonight I got the email.

Here’s Josalynne posing with her shawl:

She thanked me for the kitchen basket and sent a picture of Jos using the dishcloths, but I’m not going to publish a picture of my niece doing dishes. 🙂

It still blows me away that this little girl is almost 11. It still feels like yesterday that I held her in the hospital. 🙁

Anyway, I’m very happy that everyone loved their gifts. On Saturday we were over at my family’s for Christmas and Daddy was able to tell right away that what I made him was a remote control holder and had it on the chair within minutes. My little brother, Sean, took the blanket I made him and immediately put the blanket on the sofa (it works well in there, too) so he had it when he watched TV down there. Mom loved the basket and dishcloths and thought they’d make a lovely addition to her new kitchen.

I have renewed faith to make gifts next year, too. Not sure what I’m going to do yet, but we’ll see. Since I had such good luck starting in October, maybe this year I’ll start in June or something. 🙂 Maybe. LOL.

Time to get cracking

Okay, holiday gifts are done (and all were loved muchly) and now I have 1.5 weeks to get SSP#1 fully done (crocheted, assembled, lined, closures attached, pictures taken for my own info, pattern tweaked and edited, and the whole thing sent off). Am I panicking? Not yet. Almost, but not yet.

From here on out I will crochet on nothing else but this project. In fact, I’m about to put all the rest of the yarn and such that’s in the living room into my studio and I won’t be walking in there again until the project is done. Gah. That’s a bit scary, but it’s what has to be done.

So, if you don’t see me much this week, know it’s ’cause I’m working my fingers to the bone.

Oh, and mantra for 2008? Send no project in for submission unless the project is DONE or really really close to DONE. 🙂 I’ve learned this lesson.

Plenty of time!

That, gentle readers, would be my Little Bro’s blanket. DONE. It’s currently in the dryer. And I’m not up at 3am finishing it! 🙂

So what’s on the hook now? Working on the socks I started back on my birthday. I needed a quick small project I could take with me to Disney tomorrow. 🙂 So this is what I chose. I may likely finish the first sock tonight and then have the second one to do on the trip out and while waiting in line for entry to Candlelight. I have new sock yarn, too, so I want to finish this pair with this pattern that I’m using and then I can play around with it for the next set.

To reward myself for finishing all my gifts while normal people are still awake, I had some ice cream (Dublin Mudslide from Ben and Jerry’s) and now I’m drinking a raspberry flavored beer (Woodchuck Draft Cider in Raspberry…yummo).

Oh, and I will likely start having to crochet some dog sweaters. We have our home visit next Saturday with the Greyhound Rescue group here to see if we’re a fit with the dogs for adopting a greyhound. 🙂 We’re excited. We’ve gotten past the primary application stage. So that’s good.

In other non-yarn / animal news, our two girls are going on meds. 🙁 Trinka has some kidney problems and Trinka is overweight and has elevated liver enzymes. So both go on a special diet and meds starting tomorrow. It won’t be a happy time here in this household. Oh well. It’ll keep them healthy and happy in the long run.

Do or die time

I have 1.5 days to get my brother’s afghan done. I’m still in a good place, but things have come up to make it more difficult. I got a lot of progress done last night at a holiday party. Today I haven’t touched anything yet because I had to go pick up the cats at the vet and I’m paying for sitting on the floor for 3 hours last night. Now I’m about to settle back on the sofa and get to work.

Tomorrow I have to run to the post office and I need to go visit a friend and drop off an order with her. So, I really need to get this done tonight. 🙂 I could take it with me to work on at my friend’s house (’cause she totally understands), so I won’t completely be losing that time.

I wish I had more to say, but I don’t. 🙂 I have new sock yarn I got in my Secret Santa exchange last night. Pics later, I’ve got to get Christmas done.

Some progress and gift giving

Today I’m feeling a bit better so I’m taking the project on one row at a time. I’ve done 2 rows so far this afternoon. I’m trying to tell myself to keep plugging along and eventually I’ll get there. Can’t push too hard due to all the holiday stuff going on and I don’t want to be out of commission completely ’cause then it’ll never get done.

John and I exchanged gifts last night. 🙂 Yeah, yeah, it’s way early but I was feeling really bad and was upset about feeling bad and he wanted to make me smile. He got me a Nintendo DS and the Brain Age game. Something to do when I can’t crochet but need to keep my brain active.

I was finally able to give him the secret project I’d been working on. 🙂 And just in time, too, ’cause what I worried about was about to happen. He was thinking of starting another project and would have needed his hooks. But….I have his hooks stashed in the gift and he would have been asking where they went. So, here’s the pics (those of you on Ravelry have already seen this):

After the pictures and before I wrapped it the other day, I put in 6 white stitch markers and a metal tapestry needle for him. He really likes it and I’m glad I was able to give him something handmade as well as useful.

Okay, I need to get some more work done…one row at a time. 🙂

Need a swift kick of motivation and energy

It was a rough weekend healthwise, which is likely why I’m having such a hard time going today. It’s nice and chilly and I have the window open.

But, I’m having a hard time wanting to do anything. I have things I need to do and I even have stuff I want to do, but nothing so far. I have a mild migraine brewing (yuck) and I’m still dropping things.

For those who don’t know, dropping things is one of my issues with the fibromyalgia. It’s not fun and it makes me nervous ’cause it’s very easy to drop something that’s kinda important or dangerous. Thus why I recently quit using glasses to drink water and now fill a Naglene bottle.

Anyway, I need to get at least some progress on SSP#1 and then maybe I’ll sketch out some designs or something. I need to feel like I’m getting something done today. I’m going to be too close to deadlines soon if I don’t get a move on.

Okay, off to find something for lunch and maybe break down and take some meds (which unfortunately don’t help me on the working front).
